Former Scott High School Band Director Under Criminal Investigation
Scott High School in Boone County is at the center of a developing investigation. The school and community are looking for answers after the sudden resignation of its band director, Patrick Carte. While the reasons for his departure remain under wraps, the West Virginia State Police have confirmed that he is the subject of a criminal investigation.
At a recent meeting on September 16th, the Boone County Board of Education formally accepted the resignation. However, that is not the end of the story. This investigation and resignation have raised questions and concerns in the community.
Let’s look at what we know about this potential developing criminal case.
The Sudden Resignation and Concerns from Parents
Patrick Carte served as the band director at Scott High School and was instrumental in expanding the school’s band program. Under his leadership, the program grew from just 14 members to over 80 students. His sudden resignation sent shockwaves through the community as parents and guardians looked for answers after his departure.
In response to growing concerns, Principal Amy Hale organized a meeting at Scott High School to address the situation. While no official charges have been made public, the school administration and authorities have maintained their stance of confidentiality. Only parents and guardians of the high school students were allowed in the meeting, which was described as a “private conversation,” according to WCHS.
At this time, the exact reasons for the investigation remain unclear. While some initial reports suggest that this issue may be related to potential misconduct, the school or the West Virginia State Police have still not provided concrete evidence or information.
As of now, we do not know whether the investigation centers around criminal activities, such as financial impropriety, or something more serious. Currently, there are no direct links to sexual assault or other specific crimes. However, officials are expected to release more information as the investigation progresses. At this point, the priority seems to be protecting the investigation’s integrity and addressing the school community’s immediate concerns.
As Boone County Superintendent Matthew Riggs stated to 13 News, “It would be inappropriate for the school system to make a statement related to an investigation by the WVSP. The school system, as with any law enforcement investigation, cooperates with all agencies involved and will make no specific statements that could jeopardize that process.”
The Wait for Answers Continues
More information may emerge as the criminal investigation progresses. For now, parents, students, and community members are left waiting for answers.
